Cannot Send Chat Message

I've been playing on Minehut for about 2 weeks now on my own private server with some of my friends, throughout this time, i have not been able to send a chat message in that world or in the main lobby. I only get a red colored text that says "Cannot send chat message". I can /msg and i can do commands with "/" .

I have not seen anyone else have this problem, please help!

You do not have chat enabled in MC settings. 
To enable

1. Hit esc
2. Options
3. Chat Settings
4. Chat: (Change to shown)
