Which server type gets you the most players?

No, you can't just open the front page, look at what the top result is and tell me that as the answer. What I mean by this question is:

If you were to start a server right now and advertise it in the same way, which type of server would get you the most players?

 

2. Skymining servers

Pros:

Easy to construct

Decent at holding their playerbase

Decent at getting new players

 

Cons:

Highly Vulnerable to hackers

Need constant moderator attention

 

3. Gens/Farming servers

Pros:

Very good at holding their playerbase

Not too tough to setup

 

Cons:

Bad at getting new players (takes too long to get started)

Can be crashed by hackers if there is no worldborder/anticheat

Vulnerable to laggers and griefers

 

4. Prison Mining servers

Pros:

Good at keeping a playerbase

Not too tough to setup

 

Cons:

Bad at getting new players (takes too long to get started)

Vulnerable to nuker hackers

 

5. SMP servers

They're average servers.

Vulnerable to hackers and griefers, can be crashed by hackers if no anticheat

Most of them have the free plan and thus cap out at 10 players.

 

6. Free OP/Creative servers

Pros:

Ridiculously good at getting new players

 

Cons:

Vulnerable to griefers

Bad at keeping their players (even if you give them all op)

 

Conclusion:

If you want a lot of players very quickly, in the short term, Free OP is the way to go, at peak times, it will get you from 0 to 25 players within minutes (all new players).

If you want a lot of players in the long term, go for a gens/farming server bc if you can get a decent playerbase for it, it'll stick around for a while.

honestly just think of what the minehut playerbase likes and make an original idea, people would get bored of these server soon.

SMP servers are very good at keeping playerbase and the most easy to set up, all you need to do is get a anticheat plugin and invite some players

The problem with smp servers is theres alot of people who join with the purpose of griefing. I guess if you have an antigrief plugin then this isnt an issue, its just most people that ive found don't really have the time or patience to play smp for long enough to help grow a community unless its an external server.

I've seen all of these server genres do well. It honestly depends on how well you execute the idea! I'm sure with any of these you will succeed, good luck!

I think making an Original server is the best idea because you might not get a lot of players at the start but after a while it might become popular because people will eventually be tired of all these cash grab  sky mining servers and look for new and original servers.

Find a way to experiment with your ideas and people will eventually join and if they like it, you might grow a community.
