Why did clicking "restart" completely wipe the server?

I was making changes to the server's settings and clicked this restart button(attached). when i went back on to the server, all progress was wiped. I read a solved problem on this forum, and tried to teleport to the previous world, but it kept telling me "That world does not exist!". So I went to the backup. and restored the world to that point. But when I loaded that world, the backup was also on a different world.

SO, the things I need help with are:

1. why did the restart button reset the server

2. why is the backup not on my previous world

I dont know why this would happen. If you clicked "Restart Server" in the danger zone tab that might be why. As for the backup i dont know.

It seems like your data was somehow crashed and corrupted, resulting in the "wipe of the server", or what @AgentGamerProsuggested above. I would suggest going into your .log file from when it happened and looking at the logs to see if there is a reason for this to happen. If you can't seem to find a reason but you aren't sure how to read logs well, I suggest uploading that specific log file onto here so we can examine it and help you out. As for the backup of the wrong world, if you didn't backup the server from under the "BACKUPS" section and pressing "RESTORE SERVER" from there, I suggest trying that out. However, since servers save themselves regularly, the current last save might be AFTER this situation happened to you.
