When I try to join my friend's server, it sends me to a random place with none of my friend's plugins or any of my items

It started a few days ago, where when I did /join (friend's name), it sent me to some random forest with no items and I noticed that none of my friend's plugins were there. Can someone explain how I can join my friend's server??

 

Edit: ok I think I figured it out. It's sending me to the wrong server, so how do I change the destination when the server I want to join is so similar to the one I'm accidentally joining??? I might be joining a fallback server or something idk, but it's annoying.

Need to clarify the problem even more

You have to join using the server name, not your friend's name. Use /find <player> to get the name of the server they're on.

The "/join" command asks you to do "/join (name)", (name) referring to the server name.
