It says /join (friend's name) though, but I'll try

It started a few days ago, where when I did /join (friend's name), it sent me to some random forest with no items and I noticed that none of my friend's plugins were there. Can someone explain how I can join my friend's server?? Edit: ok I think I figured it out. It's sending me to the wrong server, so how do I change the destination when the server I want to join is so similar to the one I'm accidentally joining??? I might be joining a fallback server or something idk, but it's annoying.
