Every time I try and join a server is just sends me to the lobby

When I try and join my friends Minehut server, it always just sends me to the lobby. It also tells me I need a texture pack. When I install it, it just rejoins the lobby and i dont know why

Any error when getting kicked?

The game crashed whilst updating screen events
Error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Parameter 'directory' is not a directory

This is not a Minehut error. From research, I've found;

-First, go to your minecraft directory. You can get there by pressing "Edit Profile" in the launcher, then "Oped game dir" in the window that pops up.

-Then, create a folder named server-resource-packs.

-Try again.

I tried doing that but when I join my friends world again it just goes back to the lobby. I don't know why this happens but I might just be doing it wrong.

Nevermind, I found the problem, IT WAS IN AN OUTDATED CLIENT
