You already can. Its just vanilla or spigot for now. Just go to the settings tab and change the version.

if you are using paper, scroll to the bottom of the version list. but I don't recommend updating to paper 1.18 yet

You should create a server backup, then you can update

But what's the difference between paper and spigot? If I choose spigot, will it changes something? or should i wait until there's 1.18 for paper? Thanks!

They are just different server softwares. And paper is a more optimized and better fork of spigot. But paper is still in the early experimental versions so I don't recommend to use paper yet. Always make a backup whenever doing large version changes like this.

There could be a number of reasons why youre getting sent back to the lobby, including but not limited to:

1. The server doesnt exist
2. You're not whitelisted
3. The server is starting up and wont allow players to connect yet
4. You're using unsupported mods in a forge/fabric server
5. Unsupported minecraft version

I Cant update my server to spigot 1.18.1 it only shows 1.18.2 help!
