The Community News

31st of December, 2020.

Welcome to the first edition of The Community News. This news article will come out at the end of each month, and will discuss any topical situations that’s happening throughout the Minehut community.

New Features

The first item on this months article will be discussing is any new features or new changes that Minehut threw at us. As this is the first article, our first feature will be coming from 18th November.

Backups were introduced on the 18th November. However backups were released for testing on the Minehut Meta discord on the 12th November. Backups allow you to save backups of your server to ensure that if your server stops without warning or is griefed, you’ll be able to restore it with ease. Be careful, if you restore a backup it will completely erase the current version of your server.

We asked a few members of the community what they thought about the new backups system. “Yea, they’re really nice to save different instances of my server, and if you accidentally kill all the armour stands, villagers, or even mess up something, you can easily access the ‘rolling’ save. You can also create seasons of your server and easily rollback to a previous one, which could be great in something like a build contest server that needs to be remade quickly.” - Lukas, Minehut Server Owner.

Another new feature that was introduced as the new anti-bot. This is an in-game captcha feature that we are told will only trigger if the server believes a player is a suspected bot.

If you’re flagged as a bot, you’ll get sent to a separate server and be forced to type a captcha into the chat. The captcha can be found on a map in front of you. Credit where credits due, the amount of spam-bots in the lobby has greatly reduced due to this.

Another month, another ton of plugin updates. Over the course of November and December, over 180 plugins were updated.

The Community News, Exclusive.

As we know, not all plugins are on Minehut. The only way of getting a plugin onto the plugin list is by painstakingly requesting it. We asked the Minehut Plugin Manager, pop4959, what is the best way to request a plugin.

“Posting on the forum is definitely the best way. You’ll want to suggest one plugin per thread, because that's easier for us to keep track of, unless the plugins are related or dependent on each other. You’ll also want to include why you want the plugin to be added so that we know it’s of use to the community, also the link, and make sure that it works on the latest version of Minecraft, as that’s the version Minehut is running on”.

Recent Crashes

If you have played, or tried to play, on Minehut over the past few weeks, you’ll have most likely encounter an error, whether you can’t connect to the network itself, or can’t get your server out of hibernation.

Minehut crashed a whopping ten times over the course of December. Thankfully, it was online over Christmas Day. Minehut have rolled out several ‘fixes’, so fingers crossed that it stays online.

The reason for this consistent downtime is Minehut’s sudden and recent growth. Minehut sees a concurrent player count of around 10,000. A recent announcement on the discord states the server cap has been set to 12,000 servers, however due to the recent crashes I assume this has been reduced.

Upcoming Features

This heading will discuss any new features that will be coming to Minehut. All of these will be coming from the Minehut Meta discord and GitHub.

Subusers has been a wanted feature since Minehut began. As of right now, there is no safe way to give your server panel to another user.

Subusers will allow a server owner to add other users to their panel and allow them to control the server from the dashboard. You will be able to invite a user using their email address or their Minecraft IGN. You’ll also be able to toggle which permissions and features on the dashboard the subuser has access to. There will also be an audit log to keep track of what subusers do to the server.

Another feature that the Minehut community has wanted forever is a live console.

Currently, the only way to view the console is by viewing the ‘latest.log’ file that’s located in the file manager. The live console will let you send console command and view console output in real time. “Yes definitely very valuable. We plan on adding this, we're just not sure how soon we'll be able to get to this.” - Trent, Minehut Administrator.
