eventlack Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 We have a 60's era garage door system. It's an odd size that can no longer be bought standard. The spring broke and we couldn't find a replacement so we bought a new spring set that has 2 springs not one like the old one. The springs are larger diameter than the old ones. We have tried various combinations. The one combination that worked sorta was winding the left spring upwards and not touching the right spring. With this the garage door opened but the cables came loose when the garage door fully opened. Another combination that we tried was winding both springs upwards this didn't work, the garage door opened a little then went back down as if no springs were helping it. Winding the left one upward and the right one downward is worse. We don't know what to do.
