Restoring server making things disappear

So I recently had to restore my server using a temporary backup and my friend lost few shulker boxes that were placed on the ground. I was just wondering how/why.

Temporary backups are made every hour if i recall correctly; that means in every hour, your server is saved at that point in time, and any future action on the server will be undone if you load up that temporary backup.

The same applies to manual backups that you make
