Another thing that could be causing this is the fact that if you've changed your name, you have to sign out of the launcher and sign back in and it should work.

I try opening my server (and my friends) today and when I tried a message saying "Not authenticated with Minecraft.net" and I've tried restarting my launcher but it isn't working.
