Essentialsx not compatible?

I'm trying to host a serving for my son and his friends from across the country. They've been playing for a few months. I want to see about adding a couple of plugins like essentials x or another way for them to teleport to one another. 

 

I've tried adding the add-ons but it says it's incompatible with my server. I uploaded a .jar from another website but I'm not sure how to make it start working.

 

This is my first time trying to host a server. I'm sorry if some of my questions are stupid.

The add-ons tab often goes unupdated. The best choice is to download the plugins yourself and upload them to the server. 

You can download the plugins from external sources such as SpigotMC and then upload the .jar file to the plugins folder on the File Manager, then restart the server.

The plugin should work, but just ensure that the plugin is compatible with the server's version. Here is the download list for EssentialsX in particular.
