When I try to op myself it just says "unknown command type "help" for help"

but when I type /help it says the same thing! What do I do?

I'm assuming your typing "/op (player)" and "/help" in the console. Instead, type "op (player)" without the slash. The console automatically puts a slash in front of anything you type in.
