Does the world file have to be unzipped for it to work?

I’m trying to get my server with a custom map that is 33 megabites but every time I try to upload it it says error occurred

You can upload it zipped but you have to unzip it for it to work.

Sometimes when it says "error occurred" it will just take a bit before the file loads. Just dont do anything for a minute or two.
