Crafting recipe help

every time I try this crafting recipe it loads fine but i cant actually craft it. It works when I don't use raw iron, like if I use string instead it works fine.

 

on load:
      register new shapeless recipe for iron ingot using raw iron, air, air, air, air, air, air, air, air
