When I ban someone it says "An internal error occurred while attempting to perform this command" it only works with ip ban but I don't want to just ip ban.

believe your server has an outdated plugin which does that, try /minecraft:ban instead (minecraft:ban doesn't provide tempbans though, so i'd suggest getting a working plugin)
