Why does my server have unbreakable "Cursed Chunks"?

My server is pretty glitchy. For example cave spiders don't poison, and the hunger effect does nothing. These are minor issues, but the worst one has to be what we call "The Cursed Chunks". This is an area of roughly 4 chunks in which no block can be broken or placed by player means. Blocks in these can be effected my non player actions such as pushing them with pistons, and decaying of tree leaves (I haven't tried tnt in them yet).

While this makes for some good smp lore, I'm afraid the curse could spread to other chunks. The curse already extends by one block out of the chunk. The spawn point is also part of the cursed chunks so any farms involving the end exit portal would be impossible to make.

From my observations of the area it seems that the Cursed Chunks were previously not cursed. A spruce tree (which isn't part of the biome) is in the chunk, a single block of sand is in the middle of a grass area in the chunks too. If this is true, it means that areas of the server could become unbreakable for no reason and without warning. For now it is contained in a small area, but in the future our own builds my become permanently stuck in a cursed area.

I haven't posted the link to the server since I don't want random strangers going on, but if a minehut admin is interested in this problem I will send you the link if you are interested or need it to fix the problem.

Hi there,

There is one possible answer that comes to my mind: Spawn protection. To check and see if you have spawn protection enabled on the server, go to the "SETTINGS" tab, scroll down until you see "Spawn Protection" all the way at the bottom. If it is not set to 0, set it to 0 and then press "SAVE", then reload the server. This should fix the issue IF spawn protection is the issue.
