GUIDE: How to access and retrieve log files

Hi everyone,

Although a current CFAQ (Community FAQ/how-to's and guides) exists for this, there seem to be many players, especially newer members, who are not aware of CFAQ and the benefits they provide. You can check the more detailed CFAQ on getting and reading log files here. With this post, I want to raise more awareness on the benefits of CFAQ and try to introduce more players to it. I also don't want to try to take over CFAQ but just have something like this in a place that newer players can find easier.

 

There are 2 different ways to access and retrieve your log files.

Method 1) Through the dashboard

- Benefits: Can find access to ALL logs on your server not just the latest one.

- Disadvantages: Can take a bit of time to get used to, and takes a longer time if you are already on the server.

When you go to your minehut dashboard, click the blue "ACTIVATE" button that can be seen on your server, like here: 

From there, wait a few seconds where the video ad will load, and continue and press the blue "EDIT SERVER" button.

Then, from the top, select "FILE MANAGER" and scroll down till you see the "/logs" folder.

Once you are inside the "/logs" folder, you will see at least 1 .log file.  Open the latest one, which will either have "latest.log" as it's name, or it will be the most recent date.

From here, you will need to open one of the ".log" files and you can scroll through and see your server's logs.

 

Method 2: From the server

- Benefits: Can access the logs easily with typing 1 command and downloading the log

- Disadvantages: Can only access the latest log file (aka only from when the server started the latest until the moment you type in the command)

Once you are on your server, you have to make sure that you are a Operator (OP) on the server. If you are not, you will need to go to the server console which is under "APPEARANCE", as can be seen in the photo below. Once on the console, you will need to type "op [player]" where you replace [player] with your in-game username.

Once you are on the server as an OP, you will need to run the following command: "/dl logs", as seen below.

Once you run the command, you will receive 2 messages by minehut that only you are able to see, which looks as such:

Once you click and open the link, you will be able to access the latest logs.

 

Hope this small guide has helped you guys out with finding logs and hopefully it has introduced you to the wonderful world of CFAQ! I figured it would be easier to follow with images and I hope my mini guide will bring more attention to CFAQ and newer members can learn how to access logs and navigate the dashboard with this!
