Restarting?

So what exactly does "restarting" a server do? Me and a friend have a survival server, and I made some setting changes. It says I need to restart for them to take place, but will it clear our world? I wouldn't want to lose our house and everything we've built.

It will only restart your server. It will not clear your world, plugins, files, etc.

Restarting just means the server is refreshing, shutting down and starting back up again so new plugins are "in the loop" so to speak. It won't effect any of your progress.
