Avoid MineHut with a ten feet pole.

I am making this as a warning post to hope that somebody finds this through Google and does not fall into this trap. I'm making it on these forums in hopes that the admins see this and do something to fix this.

Minehut sucks. Not because of the lag, not because of a plugin limit that apparently exists, not because I died to a Skeleton and I'm blaming it on lag. Because we're stuck with all of those problems.

A friend, not knowing that this was a bad platform, set up a private server for us to use. We've been playing on it for a few weeks, and we've decided that we really can't deal with the aforementioned lag. It was at this point that I wish he had asked me before setting this server up, because I own a cheap $10 VPS and I can host the server myself without lag. I don't know if it has comparable specs to the next best plan we can pay for ($25/mo) because that plan only lasts RAM, not how much of the CPU we'll get. Well, I need an excuse to use the server anyways, so I'll just host the server. I told him I would do it three weeks into us building a complex survival world and a creative world. I didn't think much of that sentence, because any decent server host has the ability to download the server files and/or at least the worlds.

Any decent server host has the ability to download the server files and/or at least the worlds.

The admins know where I'm going with this. You do not get the option to download the server files when you went to switch, so you have to download the worlds individually ingame. Fine. It's stupid, but if it means getting away from the lag, we'll download the worlds.

They use the free version of a service titled file.io, which has a 100MB upload limit. None of the plans grant you access to an upgraded version of the service. All of our worlds are over that size.

We cannot just rebuild this world, it is way too complex and honestly even if we tried to put the structures into another world it would still exceed 100MB because this isn't minecraft alpha version, this is 1.16.3, and a decent world is gonna be over 100MB. So in summary, when you choose MineHut, you're appearently stuck. It's not even good for testing the waters. Our next best options are now starting from scratch or going to another survival world we have that does not have any of the structures we built (so starting from scratch halfway).

Using file.io is a horrible idea, a Minecraft world may not be 2MB but usually it's somewhere under 1GB or even 2GB, unless the person has somehow been using this host for longer then a year. Surely, you can not store the worlds locally with the /dl command dtdelete them after 10 minutes, the amount of time it actually takes for somebody to click the link and download it? Surely?

tl;dr Minehut isn't even good for testing the waters and seeing whether you want an mc server because one you use them for a moderate amount of time you cannot switch. Avoid at all costs.

Hey, Minehut no longer uses file.io anymore, they have moved to their own system for downloading! You can now download world files a lot bigger on minehut, When was the last time you tried to download it?

Also by saying to store it locally, it would have to move the file from the cloud storage and then to your website, therefore doubling download times.

But as I said, Minehut no longer uses file.io, So please try again!
