I am a plugin dev and it would be nice to upload my custom plugins through FTP. This would work by haveing a FTP tab with the ftp name, address and password to connect to your server through FTP.

Allowing people to just add whatever plugin they want to add also adds the risk of people finding a way to get and or change things they aren't supposed to have access to.

Server properties, IPs, certain commands, many things lol, people have already used certain plugin features to reset every single server on Minehut before.

As PandaChan said, it will never happen, even to add a new skript addon it takes forever just to make sure there is nothing you can do that your not supposed to.

They would need to harden security on server containers before they could allow custom jars or like you suggested, FTP / SFTP access. Without a rewrite of their system or major security updates, implementing this sort of feature would leave Minehut servers and Minehut itself, vulnerable.

Website Developer - Graphic Designer - Skript Developer - Professional Builder

Been on Minehut since January 2018. Throughout my time here I've mastered the skills you see above. I develop pretty static websites when I'm bored. I make free logos, banners, and server art for users on Minehut. I'm a proficient Skript developer. I'm also really good at building, you can see my portfolio by clicking here. Feel free to say hi if you see me somewhere 🙂

"smh you're just setting arch linux improperply"

Jokes aside, it's really a bit more difficult than you might think in the first place.

As said above, yeah, there are loads of security issues involved. You pay credits to get more slots and stuff, but with FTP you can change the server.properties entirely.

Hey there, I'm just that person that goes all out on everything 😂 I currently host an event called Minehut Mondays, where players compete for a reward. I have fully scripted SkyBlock and (with help) UHC. If you want a simple minigame set up feel free to message me here or on Discord Ezekia#1234 🙂

You can secure alot, with things like linux namespaces, cgroups, docker...
You can create an isolated environment for every server and restrict everything.
the amount of cpu it can use, the amount of ram, seperate networking, max amount of processes, threads, the entire filesystem (each server its own files), all I/O etc. All system resources can be restricted. for changing the internal settings like the max amount of players can be easily blocked on the proxy server (bungeecord). Every server gets it own networking which can be firewalled, so that it cannot for example access other servers. It is not just only a different user for every server, but you can emulate everything. without the overhead of a virtual machine. There are a lot of hosting companies that already use this, only minehut is not part of that. It would be really fun if we could upload custom plugins and code, without that that code can harm minehut.

However, I think this would be very complex and it is not worth it. Minehut developers need to focus on a stable free hosting platform instead of focusing on custom plugins.

And ftp is still possible then, without that you can upload custom plugins. It has then the same restrictions that the minehut file manager has. FTP is just a protocol, for file sharing.

So it is possible that you can upload custom plugins, but is it really needed?

Is you want to test plugins, make a localhost server.

We plan to make file manager improvements, so take that as you will. 🙂
