Commands don't work, and console commands never come through when i add them

My friends and i run a multiplayer world and we have tried multiple times to active commands, we've tried /gamemode creative and other simple commands, we even tried activating command blocks and it always says we don't have permission to do so?

You can't run commands on a server without permissions I would suggest making yourselves operator on the server! To do this please watch the video submitted!

For console commands to be run you must NOT put the "/" before any commands!
