Well its hard to know for 100% sure but a logical guess would be that the chicken's ancestors were egg layers. At some point the chicken had to have evolved/mutated enough to be considered a different species (be unable to made with the ancestor). Exactly how and when that happened I don't know but its safe to assume the mutations occurred with in the egg in the developing creature. So in that regard the egg came first. We just need the answer to the question "Who came first? Chickens or eggs?", and the truth is, Chickens. If there is no chicken there is no chicken egg because chicken egg can only be laid by chickens since chicken eggs have proteins only chickens can put on their eggs. Rufen Posted March 3, 2020 Author Share Posted March 3, 2020 See that is not the case because animals don't just mutate in their life time it happens during development so at one point in time an animal we wouldn't call a modern chicken laid and egg that had been changed enough to the point that the modern chicken can no longer reproduce with the initial common ancestor to the chicken. Theres no 100% guarrantee that the "change" happened on the "egg" And btw would the "egg" in which the first chicken was be considered a true chicken egg?
