I have a trouble with my server, after I updated it it became laggy like I have a weak ping. can anyone help

Hello can anyone help me because my server is more than 1 yr old already and there is a lot of build in it and travelled chunks, after I updated it to 1.17 it is now laggy like we have weak ping. Can anybody help? Thanks for the response!
